Quizdom Braes High School

I'm trialling the Quizdom [Q5] supplied by Scotsys within the DET department initially. I have previous experience of working with Quizdom Q3.
Ease of Setup - for some reason I've had problems installing the software but with the help of Kevin McAuley at Scotsys these problems were quickly resolved.
Complatibility, ease of transfer of existing materials - this is varied, dependant of the original format -
From powerpoint - I found it very easy to quickly change a set of powerpoint slides into an interactive quiz.
From Word including graphics - When I did this for the first time I was apparently using not the most up to date version of the software. However I found it to be a nightmare - using the cut & paste facilites it took me between at least 1 - 2hrs to transfer 24 multiple choice question [each with 4 answers and half with a graphic]. The latest version of the software does make this easier but its still time consuming. Next time I think that I'll just type directly into the software.

Range of Questions - a wide range of questions are available ranging from multiple choice type to True/False or Yes/No questions I would like to see a fastest finger [where the anwer is not specific]
Storage issues - Supplied in a case teachers have not found any problems, the handsets are big enough not to be accidently misplaced.
Pupil response - All pupils who have used the system in the class have responded well - all keen to take part in the question and answering sessions.
Battery type - each pupils handset takes two AA batteries. the only problem has been making sure that the handsets are turned off at the end of a session, I would have preferred to see a distinct on/off button.

Uses so far - within the DET department to run end of unit tests which we have made ourself - I have not yet used the content packs yet. We have also used it within the end of term assembly for S1 and S2 to run a interhouse quiz. It proved very successful.
I intend to use it next year within other departments such as Art or Home Economics.

Quizdom St Mungo's

Hello everyone!

I am trialling the qwizdom package at St Mungo's High. We have been given two sets of equipment (Q3's and Q5's) from RM.

The software is very good and easy to use, although, the content packs are written specifically for the english syllabus.

I have trialled the software in the faculty of science as well as during an assembly. The staff and pupils both enjoy using the package and I have found it particularly useful for motivating pupils.

The next stages of our trial will be in modern languages, with maths and english next if time permits. We are also keen to use the kits for pupil and staff surveys.

eInstruction CPS Voting System Trial

Phil Stanley from eInstruction visited my school and after a short introductory lesson I then went home and prepared a few lessons. It is extremely user friendly. Phil also provided me with lots of useful software for the trial. The maths software has been invaluable. It is easy to store as it comes in a small bag which I store under my desk. I have allocated pupils to help distribute the controls. The pupils have enjoyed using the system. They are totally focused and on task. This is especially useful in a rather challenging maths class. The remote controls are easy for the pupils to use. They enjoy watching for the questions appearing on screen and the boys are enjoying watching to see who has answered and when they answer. It is giving them a small amount of competition which is helping to keep them focused. This week I am going to try my science and environmental studies assessment using the system, as i have quite a few pupils who struggle to write. I don't really want to hand the system back and I know my class don't!

Guidelines to evaluation will be issued to Bloggers. They will include the following categories which will be the basis for evaluation process. Each contributor will add comments to each of these headings:

· Compatibility/ ease of transfer with current a resources
· Hardware and technical issues
· Comment on range of question styles available
· Can feedback be customized to suit need
· Storage issues
· Pupil response/motivation

On the right-hand pane of the blog there will be a list of the contributors. In addition there will be links to the web resources for each of the 8 systems being evaluated.

The companies will be providing the evaluation sets from the beginning of November to mid-December 2005. They will each be invited to provide a demonstration at the end of October 2005 to the central ICT Curriculum Support team in Camelon Education Centre as well as a one-to-one training session around the same time period with the specific Masterclass teacher who will be evaluating their product.
